Tom Kha Gai - Chicken Coconut Soup With Galangal ( ต้มข่าไก่ )


Tom Kha Gai is a classic Thai soup made with coconut milk, chicken, galangal, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves. It has a creamy, aromatic, and slightly sour flavor, often finished with lime juice, fish sauce, and sometimes chilies for spice. It's known for its balance of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy tastes, and is milder than the spicy Tom Yum soup.


Tom means to boil something.

Kha means Galangal which is an Asian plant of the ginger family, the aromatic rhizome of which is widely used in cooking and herbal medicine.

Gai means Chicken.


Ingredients


  • Chicken breast

  • Young galangal

  • Oyster Mushroom

  • Coconut Milk

  • Lemongrass

  • Lime

  • Onion

  • Hot Chili peppers

  • Sawtooth Coriander leaves

  • Salt or Fish sauce

  • Sugar

  • Kaffir leaves
